Whiplash Treatment
When you are in a car accident, many things become a concern.
What is "Whiplash"? What are the treatments for whiplash?
Often times a person may feel ok immediately following the car accident. Then a few days later the neck begins to stiffen up, or a person starts having headaches they didn't have before.
A commonly used term for symptoms related to a car accident is "whiplash", a more accurate definition would be, "cervical hyperflexion-hyperextension injuries due to acute trauma".
Many research studies show that when you are in a car accident some of the forces are transmitted through the vehicle and impact you so quickly that the effects can be very significant and damaging to your body and nervous system. And that these effects may not show up as a variety of "symptoms" for days or weeks following the accident.
Here are some of the common symptoms of "whiplash" in the days or weeks following a car accident:
- Neck pain, stiffness or aches.
- MidBack pain, stifffness.
- LowBack pain, stiffness, aches
- Chest pain, stiffness. (can be caused by the seatbelt or airbags).
- Arm, shoulder, hand pain, aches, stiffness that wasn't there before. (these symptoms can also be caused by how your arms and hands were situated on the steering wheel at the time of impact).
- Ankle, foot pain, hip pain or aches, leg pain, may be experienced following a car accident possibly due to jamming the foot on the brake or clutch at the time of impact. There are other possible causes for these symptoms also, such as injuries to the nerve system of the lowback causing radiation or refferral symptoms to the hips, legs, or feet.
