If you have already filled out the intake forms, kindly give them to our staff. Please let them know if you still need to fill out forms.
After processing the intake forms, a staff member will escort you to a treatment room. You may be asked to put on an examination gown if your area of complaint is not easily accessible due to clothing. While you are waiting, the doctor will review your forms.
After consulting with you about your condition, the doctor will perform a thorough chiropractic, orthopedic and neurological examination. No treatment will be done in our office without your consent.
If you have been seen by another provider for this same, or similar, condition, and have already had diagnostic imaging, please bring with you a CD from the imaging facility, or the name and location of the facility that performed the imaging. We are affiliated with Borg and Ide Radiology, University Medical Imaging and Rochester Radiology/Rochester Diagnostic Imaging, and have direct access to their websites to view your images if your studies were performed at any of their facilities. Therefore, if your imaging was performed at any of these facilities, there is no need to bring a CD of your own. Some patients may require further diagnostic studies before treatment can begin. These might include X-rays, MRI scan, CT Scan, Bone Scan, Blood work, Urinalysis or other examinations. Your Doctor will personally review the results of any studies with you. They say 'A picture is worth a thousand words', and so it is with diagnostic imaging. Most patients are amazed once they see their X-rays up close with the assistance of their Doctor. In some cases, the patients can even identify their misalignments and degeneration themselves.
Once the Consultation and Examination is complete, the Doctor will explain his or her findings to you, and let you know if you are a candidate for Chiropractic Care. If so, a treatment plan will be explained and any questions will be answered. Follow-up care will be explained, including an estimate of treatment frequency and duration.
Based on your personal History, Exam and Diagnostic Studies, if the doctor feels that your condition would best be treated by another specialist, an accelerated referral will be made to the appropriate Provider/Specialist.
Most patients receive treatment on the first visit. Once treatment begins, your doctor will explain your responsibilities in the healing process. These may include at-home use of ice, heat, therapeutic exercises, ergonomic changes or modification to certain activities until your healing process is well underway.
Treatment may include spinal adjustments, therapeutic modalities, and/or soft tissue techniques. Treatment is interactive, so you can express concerns about the different styles of treatment at any time.
Chiropractic adjustments usually involve a quick thrust that helps restore normal motion to any joints that aren't moving fully. Chiropractors are highly trained to evaluate both spinal and extremity joints for intrinsic joint play motions that are normal for any given joint. When those joint play motions become restricted, there are profound effects on joint ranges of motion, muscle tone, strength and flexibility of the muscles that cross the joint, and biomechanical compensations above and below the affected joint. There are many ways to perform the adjustments to the spine or the extremities to both remove joint play restrictions and increase joint ranges of motion. Most adjustments are performed manually, using the Doctor's hands. Sometimes a small instrument, a moveable table, or traction can be used as an aide to correct subluxations. The key to 'adjusting' any joint is proper patient positioning so that the least amount of force necessary to correct the subluxation. Most Chiropractic Adjustments are gentle in nature, though occasionally more force is necessary to restore normal movement to a very restricted joint.
