Facet Pain in Low Back

 Facet Pain in Low Back

The facet joints are joints on either side of your lumbar vertebrae that interlocked with the vertebrae above and below it. These facet joints are located on the left and right side in the back of the vertebrae. When you bend your back backwards you are slightly compressing the facet joints.  When you bend forward you are opening the facet joints.  The facet joints can become irritated and cause pain. Facet pain comprises only about 10% of back pain.

Facet pain usually can be localized to an area about the size of a quarter in your lower back either on the left side or the right side.  The patient can usually put their finger from right over where the pain is. Bending your back backwards will usually irritates facet problems. Inactivity also will aggravate facet problems.

If you think you're having facet irritation call our office for an examination. You also can call and we can talk on the phone about your condition.
