Strength Training Resources
Whether you are a serious competitor, a beginner or a professional working with athletes; I hope you find something useful here.
My perspective is that muscular development should have a purpose. It is true that there are general health benefits to training beyond the specific sports but strength doesn't transfer well between activities. Training is very movement-specific. You will get a lot more from your work outs if you plan them to match your sports, job or recreation as closely as possible.
The time you spend planning your program will be well rewarded. In almost all situations it is important to consider a periodized program format of some sort.
I have been working with Gray Cook's Functional Movement Screen (FMS) and the break down of the various movement dysfunctions and corrective exercises for them. It is important to screen for movement deficiencies in order to improve performance and avoid injury.
Beyond this, I am seriously interested in the research literature in fitness and physical therapy / sports medicine and chiropractic.
I will attempt to bring some useful information together for you here.
I have included a number of aspects related to strength training in this section.
