Chiropractic
What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a primary health care profession. It is a comprehensive system of health care that believes good health can be achieved and maintained, in many instances, without the intervention of surgery and/or drugs. Chiropractors are physicians trained in all phases of health care through a naturalistic, holistic approach to care. Chiropractic care considers the needs of the entire individual, not just a part like the back or neck.
Chiropractors are concerned about their patients nutrition, posture, gait, blood pressure, internal organ function, work environment, stress levels in other words- the whole person. By helping to eliminate pain and improve body function your nerves, which control all the functions of your body, from breathing and digestion to movement and circulation, you will function better and feel better.
Approximately 90% of your nerves are nerves of function. When nerves of function are irritated you won’t feel pain but you may lose some, if not all, of the functions controlled by that nerve. The other 20% of nerves are nerves of pain. When these nerves get irritated you will not only lose proper function, you will feel pain.
So, for example, if the nerve to your kidneys is irritated, then you might experience not only back pain but kidney problems. The way a nerve gets irritated is when the bones of the spine, called the vertebra, put pressure on or crush the nerve. This is called a subluxation. Although pain can occur immediately, most often, it does not. Health problems, including pain, can and usually do, occur slowly over time. This is why it is important to be checked by a doctor of chiropractic as soon as your health has changed.
