Massage Therapy

There are lots of reasons that people can feel pain going through their days. Whether you've injured a muscle, slept wrong on your neck, or you have a chronic pain condition, pain is often a normal part of life for many people. Muscle and joint aches are some of the most common everyday complaints people have. There are lots of causes, including the normal aging process that can contribute to these pains. Three sources of muscle and joint pain are exercise, injury, and illness.

Exercise

Exercise is designed to work your muscles, which burns calories and strengthens the muscles. If you're pushing yourself in your exercise routines, it's common to feel sore or achy afterward. The soreness can be in the muscles, which comes from use, or in the joints, which comes from strain on the joints when you exercise. Usually, the soreness relieves itself and, if you keep exercising, you'll be less likely to experience pain after a workout. Sometimes, the soreness is more serious and doesn't go away on its own. This can happen if you over-exercise or if your body is not used to working that hard. In those cases, you may need additional help to ease the pain. Massage therapy can be a way to ease pain in the muscles and joints after exercising.

Injury

Injury is another common cause of joint and muscle pain. Injuries can happen when you exercise, but it's not the only source of muscle and joint injuries. You can experience injuries after an accident or even from a minor fall. The pain that comes from injuries usually remains until the injury is healed. Rather than taking medications while your injury heals, you may want to find an alternative pain relief method, like massage therapy.

Illness

Illness can be another cause of joint and muscle pains. Conditions like fibromyalgia, arthritis, and lupus cause pain throughout the body. Because these are chronic conditions, the pain can never be healed. Many people also find little relief from medications. Instead, they have to turn to alternative methods to ease their pain, such as massage therapy.

Benefits of massage therapy

When you experience muscle or joint pain, massage therapy is a good way to find relief. Massage therapy relaxes muscle tension and promotes blood flow, which helps return your muscles to health. Massage also eases joint stiffness and pain, increasing flexibility. Through massage therapy, you not only get relief from joint and muscle pain but relief from anxiety and stress, as well.

Incorporating massage therapy into your overall health and wellness plan can produce amazing results. Whether you suffer from back pain or headaches, want to prepare for that big sporting event, recover from that weekend 5K race, or just want to relax and reduce the stress in your life; massage therapy may be for you! Some of the benefits that are associated with massage are:

  •     Reduces stress, anxiety, and depression
  •     Increases joint movements and flexibility
  •     Reduces spasms and cramping
  •     Reduces the appearance of scar tissue and/or stretch marks
  •     Helps with overall circulation of the body, which also speeds up healing time
  •     Promotes tissue regeneration
  •     Increases the release of endorphins, which is the body’s natural pain killer

Our Licensed Massage Therapists are proficient in many massage modalities to help meet your needs.

Swedish Massage – Swedish massage is essentially an overall relaxation massage. The massage incorporates various techniques which focus on alleviating stress and areas of tension, making you as relaxed and comfortable as possible.

Deep Tissue Massage -  Deep tissue massage focuses primarily on the tissues beneath and throughout the muscles. This modality helps rid your body of toxins, while getting to the core of your muscle pain and tension.

Sports Massage – Sports massage can be very beneficial to all athletes. It can be incorporated before an athletic event to help your body perform at the maximal level, or after an event to work out those tight muscles.

Trigger Point Therapy – Trigger point therapy helps restore muscles by applying pressure to certain points (trigger points) of the muscle. This modality is especially effective for people with muscle tightness, chronic pain, and low range of motion.

Myofascial Release – Myofascial release focuses on slowly stretching an area of tight soft-tissue components. It involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion.

Manual Lymph Drainage – Manual lymph drainage (MLD) is a great way of exercising your immune system. MLD cleanses the body of metabolic wastes, excess water, and harmful bacteria and toxins. This is a light modality that does not include firm pressure.

Reflexology – Reflexology is a protocol of manual techniques to stimulate the complex neural pathways linking body systems, supporting the body's efforts to function optimally.  Reflexology is a pleasurable experience that can bring relief to a wide range of acute and chronic conditions.
